Hello, I’m Josh! I’ve had such an amazing journey to this point and the best part of it is certainly the people I have met and continue to meet along the way. I opened Hope Heal Change Counseling in 2019 with the help and guidance of so many amazing people in my life. I built the practice from scratch and have committed to remaining true to who I am throughout. At its core, the practice was built from genuinely caring about people and doing the right thing by my clients. As time has passed, I feel like I have honed my craft quite well and I believe that I offer something unique and special to my clientele.

My thoughts on therapy in a nutshell. Here’s a test: Try to give yourself a genuine compliment right now. Say something nice about yourself. Did you believe it? Was it hard? Did it feel awkward? How about self-criticism? Do you tend to criticize yourself far more than offer yourself lovingness? Did you know that in healthy marriages, we have found that for every 1 criticism, there are 5 positive comments? Why shouldn’t be the same with ourselves? Enough questions. I believe that if we can learn to treat ourselves better, our lives become immensely better. I also believe that the path to having a great relationship with yourself is to really know and understand who you are and how you got here. It’s hard to love things that we don’t understand. How’s your relationship with you? All in all, I’m here to treat roots, not so much symptoms. Certainly I’ll give you tools and strategies for working through day-to-day challenges like panic attacks; but, I’m really after what led to the symptom and I think that if that can be addressed, symptoms fade. Someone who punches a hole through the wall doesn’t necessarily have an anger problem–they have a hurting problem. You don’t have to hate yourself anymore.

A smidge about me: I earned my Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Oakland University. While studying, I earned a scholarship which afforded me the opportunity to work as a career counselor where I learned how to help people with their career journey–anything from resume building to starting from square one. Along with providing therapy, I teach at Oakland University and serve as a member of the Detroit Lions wellness team. Before being in the Therapy world, I was a middle school teacher and also coached middle and high school sports. Outside of my work and education, I am an animal lover, sports fan, avid movie watcher and… as my clients will inevitably come to know… a total golf enthusiast.

Tara Yombor MA LPC LMHC

Specialties: Substance use, addiction, family counseling, trauma, depression, anxiety

Populations: 16 years old and up

Hi there, I’m Tara! You can also call me a chaos coordinator, a mother, wounded heart healer, or an emotional guide.

As a mental health therapist, and as a previous client in my own personal therapy, I understand how challenging and emotional it can be to seek therapy.  I want to make this as simple and stress-free as possible by explaining a bit about me and what to expect during therapy.

I grew up in Michigan, receiving my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Michigan State University (Go Green)!  In 2011, I moved to south Florida, and completed my Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling from Nova Southeastern University. After 11 years in the sunshine state, and after having two beautiful children (you can also call me a professional “boo boo kisser”), I moved back “home” to Michigan. I currently hold professional licenses in both Michigan (LPC) and Florida (LMHC).

I began my career in Boulder, CO working at a substance abuse facility for pregnant women. While living in Florida, I spent a year working in a psychiatric hospital. During and after graduation, I worked in various substance abuse treatment centers as a mental health therapist and eventually as Clinical Director prior to going into private practice. I have been in the substance abuse field for over 12 years facilitating individual sessions, relationship/family counseling, and group therapy sessions. My passion includes helping people live with intention and find peace within themselves and their relationships. I work with those struggling with substance abuse, addictive behaviors/OCD, co-depenency/boundary setting, depression, anxiety, self esteem/eating disorders, relationships (both interpersonal and family), anger/resentment, and major life events.

My primary focus is to create a judgement-free zone where you feel safe to be emotionally open and honest. Our first session will be aimed at getting to know one another.  I will assist you in finding out what you hope to gain from your time in therapy as well as ask you some questions about your history and interpersonal relationships. My therapy style is very organic and person-centered. Topics of individual sessions are up to you based on where you are at in your personal journey. I understand that no two people are the same and that not one single approach will work for everyone. I strive to carefully listen to my clients’ needs and tailor my approach to suit you.

I want you to know that regardless of the personal circumstances standing in the way of your happiness, hope still exists.

Kim Holzknecht MA LPC SCL

Specialties: Trauma, Mindfulness, depression, anxiety, Acute Stress, School related issues

Populations: 6 years old and up. **Kim is one of our truly unique therapists in the field that is Fantastic with young populations

Hello, I’m Kim! I’m a compassionate and dedicated counselor with experience in providing support and guidance to individuals seeking personal growth and emotional well-being. With a genuine passion for helping others, I aim to create a safe and non-judgmental space where clients can explore their thoughts, feelings, and concerns.

I obtained my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Michigan State University and subsequently pursued a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling from Oakland University. I spent five years working as a high school counselor before transitioning into private practice. Private practice has afforded me the opportunity to continue to leverage my clinical skills while also allowing me to put the main focus on one’s mental health. I have ample experience working with adolescents and hope to continue that work. I also welcome adult clients as well.

I have extensive training in various therapeutic modalities including: cognitive-behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and mindfulness-based approaches — allowing me to tailor my counseling approach to each client’s unique needs. I strive to foster a personalized and effective therapeutic experience.

Throughout my career, I have successfully assisted clients dealing with a wide range of issues, such as anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, self-esteem concerns, and life transitions. Above all else, I take an empathetic approach and pride myself on the ability to establish a strong rapport with clients — helping create a trusting and collaborative therapeutic alliance. I believe in a holistic approach to counseling, considering the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit. I recognize the importance of self-care and often incorporate mindfulness techniques, relaxation exercises, and stress management strategies into my counseling sessions. My goal is to empower individuals to develop healthier coping mechanisms, enhance self-awareness, and build resilience to navigate life’s challenges with confidence.
