Cost for Intern sessions: $30
Update (10/10/2024):
Our current intern, Justin Lamb, is finishing his internship and moving forward. Therefore, he will no longer be taking new clients. Justin looks forward to continue to serve the area as a licensed counselor. We have a new intern starting the first week of January. If you are looking for low-cost therapy options in the interim, please reach out using our contact page.
A note from Josh (founder of Hope Heal Change Counseling) about our counseling intern: I want to introduce you to our counseling intern, Justin. I have had the privilege to teach at Oakland University the last couple of academic years and in that time, I’ve met many fantastic students. Justin Lamb is a top student in the Masters program at Oakland University and is finishing his academic journey with us at Hope Heal Change Counseling. Justin has my full endorsement and we’re all excited to watch Justin grow into his own as a therapist. Please call 248-930-9132 to set up an appointment with Justin.
Hi, I’m Justin!
I’m a curious and passionate counselor with a special interest in helping my clients uncover the “why-s” in life. Have you ever wondered why you react a certain way? What about behave a certain way, or even view something a certain way? If so, you have also wondered about the same “why-s”. Uncovering each person’s why-s and figuring out the value that knowledge has is specific to each individual. However, understanding ourselves and our behaviors with more clarity is a priceless endeavor for everyone.
Using a highly integrative approach, I enter counseling with a large box of tools and an open mind. While there are commonalities that we all share as humans, the individual experiences we have and how those combine with our specific environments is what creates the uniqueness that, for better or worse, make us the people we are. As a therapist, I like to understand the entirety of your story. I use that to help you break down barriers and discover the best version of yourself, however you define that. Understanding where we derive our validation, self-worth, and identity are all important building blocks for living to the fullest.
As a professional I come from a diverse background, both academically and careerwise. I hold three associate degrees of varying interests, as well as a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies. Currently, I am on the tail end of my graduate program and will soon have a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling. I have worked in multiple industries including hospitality, retail, government, and logistics; which has allowed me the privilege of seeing how the modern world works in different ways. This diversity is foundational in my skillset and value of empathy.
My journey to counseling came through the abundance I found in my own personal therapy journey, combined with a passion of hearing and helping others. I believe our stories are a constant and ever-changing thing. We only find the full worth of those stories when we embrace them and identify our why-s.
In my academic work, I have won multiple awards for my presentations on the Help Seeking Patterns of Men. I have also been awarded for developing a podcast to support current and future counseling students. I love learning and helping others find their passions.
